Hey, nice to see you
I’m Heidi, (owner of The Attuned Room), a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, speaker and life grafter, born & based in south Birmingham.
Let me guess you've spent ages scrolling through 'Find a Therapist' pages, looking at hundreds of faces, qualifications and approaches, wondering how on earth you're supposed to know who you'll actually connect with.
Trust me I get it, I know what it feels like to search for a therapist and to sit in the opposite chair, to feel vulnerable and to share parts of your story that you might not have shared before. I've never forgotten what that feels like, and it's something I carry with me into my work, with a real appreciation for the trust and responsibility that comes with being someone's therapist.
So maybe you're here looking for yourself, or perhaps you're a parent trying to find someone who feels right to support your child. Either way, choosing a therapist can feel a little overwhelming, especially when you're not quite sure what you're looking for, just hoping something clicks.
I never dreamt of being a therapist, somehow life just moved me in that direction, maybe it’s because I know what it feels like to be fed up with my own head & heart that I found myself able to hold and contain the painful and in other people. I think, in many ways, I was meant to find my way here, to hold peoples stories and hand it back to them a little lighter.
If you’re looking for the perfectly polished therapist like you might see on TV, move on now. I'm certainly not this cliche and thankfully, therapy doesn't always have to be quite so serious either.
There's room for laughter and lightness here too amongst the heavier stuff.
I get it. Finding the right therapist isn't always easy, so I’m glad you're here.
If something resonates, I'd love to chat. Just drop me a message and we can take it from there.
Therapy with me looks like …
Think of Integrative Psychotherapy a little like making a smoothie.
There are different ingredients we can draw from, each representing a different therapeutic approach. Your smoothie might contain lots of relational and attachment work, with some IFS, ACT or creative approaches blended in.
Someone else’s might have completely different ingredients and proportions. There is no set recipe, we blend the approaches to fit you.
Therapeutic models I draw from …
-
The relationship is at the heart of the therapy. I’m not a blank face or silent observer. I’m present and responsive, using what happens between us to help understand patterns in your relationships with yourself and others.
-
Trauma can leave your body responding as though something from the past is still happening now. We can gently process these experiences, helping your mind and body make sense of what happened, recognise that it is over, to feel safer in the present.
-
We explore how childhood experiences and early relationships may shape how you feel in relation to yourself, others and the world around you. I’m curious about what sits underneath these recurring patterns and how the past might still be influencing the present.
-
We explore the different parts of you that may hold different feelings, beliefs or ways of coping. For example, one part might desperately want closeness while another pushes people away. We get curious about what each part is trying to protect you from and what it needs.
-
Through art, imagery, sand tray, objects or play, we can explore experiences beyond words, becoming curious about the metaphors and symbols that emerge and what they might reveal outside of our conscious awareness.
-
You are the expert on your own experience and are in charge of the space. I offer unconditional positive regard, meaning you do not have to hide or change yourself for me to accept you and what you bring. I follow your lead while offering a safe and containing relationship.
-
ACT helps us explore what really matters to you and the values you want to live by. We consider what you want your life to stand for and how you can make choices that move you towards that life, even when difficult thoughts or feelings show up.
-
For a particular difficulty such as anxiety, phobias, intrusive thoughts or avoidance, we can introduce more structured support. This might include behavioural experiments or graded exposure, helping the child test predictions and discover what happens for themselves.
