Support for children
Individualised therapy for ages 5 - 12.
The things your child might not yet have the words to explain.
Perhaps something is showing up through their behaviour or emotions and you are struggling to understand where it is coming from, how best to help, or you need some support while waiting for NHS services.
I meet children in their world and at their pace, using an attachment focused, relational and non directive approach.
We might talk, play, use art, sand tray, movement or visual resources to explore their inner world and make sense of what they are experiencing.
Parents and carers are involved as much as appropriate, helping you understand your child’s inner world and develop supportive strategies, while your child’s individual therapeutic relationship remains at the heart of the work.
What my support includes for parents & carers
-
My support goes beyond the individual sessions I have with your child. We'll also arrange regular opportunities to meet and reflect on how things are going, talk through any progress or concerns, and explore strategies that might be helpful at home or school. How often we meet is something we'll agree together, based on your child's needs and what feels most helpful for your family.
-
Sometimes, schools may arrange a ‘Team Around the Child’ meeting, bringing together parents, carers and professionals involved in your child's care to share concerns, explore their needs and agree on how best to support them.
I'm happy to attend and contribute to these meetings, where appropriate, at a time and frequency agreed with you. This can help ensure that the support your child receives in therapy is considered alongside what's happening at home and school, while respecting their privacy and confidentiality.
-
If your child finds a particular strategy or technique helpful during therapy, we can explore ways to bring this into everyday life. With your child's agreement, I can share these approaches with you so that you can continue supporting them at home, helping to build on the work we're doing together in sessions.
