My approach to therapy …
For me, therapy starts with the relationship we build. I'm interested in how our past experiences shape the way we see ourselves, relate to others and make sense of the world today.
Having trained to work with people of all ages and stages, which means I adapt the therapeutic approach to best suit the season of life you find yourself in.
Our work is flexible and evolves with you. Sometimes we'll talk things through, connect the dots and explore familiar patterns. Other times, we might use imagery, creativity or symbolism to make sense of the things that are harder to put into words.
Some moments we can go with the flow, other times we can bring in a little more structure. It all depends on what you need.
Therapy that adapts around you
Curious about what goes into our sessions?
Here are some of the therapeutic approaches I draw on, depending on what you need and where our work takes us.
-
The relationship is at the heart of the therapy. I’m not a blank face or silent observer. I’m present and responsive, using what happens between us to help understand patterns in your relationships with yourself and others.
-
Trauma can leave your body responding as though something from the past is still happening now. We can gently process these experiences, helping your mind and body make sense of what happened, recognise that it is over, to feel safer in the present.
-
We explore how childhood experiences and early relationships may shape how you feel in relation to yourself, others and the world around you. I’m curious about what sits underneath these recurring patterns and how the past might still be influencing the present.
-
We explore the different parts of you that may hold different feelings, beliefs or ways of coping. For example, one part might desperately want closeness while another pushes people away. We get curious about what each part is trying to protect you from and what it needs.
-
Through art, imagery, sand tray, objects or play, we can explore experiences beyond words, becoming curious about the metaphors and symbols that emerge and what they might reveal outside of our conscious awareness.
-
You are the expert on your own experience and are in charge of the space. I offer unconditional positive regard, meaning you do not have to hide or change yourself for me to accept you and what you bring. I follow your lead while offering a safe and containing relationship.
-
ACT helps us explore what really matters to you and the values you want to live by. We consider what you want your life to stand for and how you can make choices that move you towards that life, even when difficult thoughts or feelings show up.
-
For a particular difficulty such as anxiety, phobias, intrusive thoughts or avoidance, we can introduce more structured support. This might include behavioural experiments or graded exposure, helping the child test predictions and discover what happens for themselves.
01. You want a therapist who's a real person, not a blank slate. Someone you can build a genuine, trusting relationship with.
02. You're not quite sure where to start, or you've got lots to say but struggle to find the words.
03. You're curious about how your past experiences might be shaping your life, relationships and feelings today.
04. You'd like a mix of talking things through, practical tools and creative ways to explore what words sometimes can't.
This might suit you if
One session is only about 0.6% of your week.
The real work happens in the other 99.4%, as you start to weave what we explore together into your everyday life.
Still, that 0.6% matters deeply to me.
It’s a privilege to be trusted with your story, and I hold that space with care and respect.
